The Mockingbird is the perfect guitar for players who aren’t quite connecting with a Gibson but aren’t ready to make the jump to higher-priced options like Collings.

If you’ve spent any time on guitar forums or gone down a YouTube rabbit hole exploring new guitars, chances are you’ve come across Josh Williams and his highly acclaimed Mockingbird model. With endorsements from top players like Josh Smith, Ariel Posen, Joey Landreth, and Drew Shirley, it’s easy to see why his guitars are making waves.

While the Mockingbird draws inspiration from classic Gibson designs—using similar tonewoods, construction techniques, and pickup configurations—it’s far from being a replica. This model has its own distinct character, combining the elegance of a Collings with the grit of a Gibson. That’s not to compare or understate Josh’s talent, but rather to illustrate the top-tier craftsmanship and exceptional playability he brings to every instrument.

We're happy to see Josh using Lollar standard wind Imperial humbuckers. Nothing against the low wind version that seem to be everywhere over the last few years, but the standard winds have a much fuller midrange without getting wooly. This guitar has a bit of a Les Paul's punch and fullness while still retaining a chimey, clear top-end. Whether clean or overdriven, it's hard to deny that this Mockingbird sounds incredible.

The Bigsby? Zero worries with tuning stability here, thanks in part to the use of a roller saddle bridge. We gave it a good once over and didn't notice any issues with tuning - always a great thing to see with a Bigsby-equipped guitar.

The neck carve is another highlight for us—it’s slightly chunky but still really comfortable, with a .83” measurement at the first fret that feels just right in hand.

We can’t say enough good things about Josh's Mockingbird model (every guitar we've had from his small. CA-based shop has been consistently great) - check it out!
