There are clean vintage guitars, and then there are CLEAN vintage guitars. Do you know what we mean?!

This 1965 Fender Duo Sonic II unequivocally falls into the latter category, caps and all. It's not only one of the seldom seen models of its era, but it's an incredible player, and 100% original throughout.

Introduced in 1964, the Duo Sonic II is essentially Fender's Mustang model without the vibrato tailpiece. It's got the same 24" scale length (with prior Duo Sonics having the more diminutive 22.5" scale) and electronics, same tuners, etc. Think of it like a hardtail, only without the string-through construction.

The guitar is 95% pre-CBS, with a November neck stamp, a paint stick and nail hole painted body, single line Kluson tuners, and even a pair of Stackpole pots from mid December '64.

The only evidence to suggest the guitar was completed in 1965 is by way of the original grey bobbin pickups, which show very faint written dates of early/mid January. It's also got an L-series neck plate that typically correlates to '64 builds.

Semantics aside, it's a fabulous sounding, looking, and playing Duo Sonic II, and frankly a model we just don't see very often. It's clearly been very seldom played as evidenced by the lack of lacquer checking, fret wear, or finish wear on the neck. The headstock looks quite fresh, with a clear, unfaded decal and just light natural patina on the tuners.

If you love student model electrics from this period like we do, than this one would satisfy and then some.
