Product information

Cure all of your stage fright with this featherweight Gibson Ripper from 1974

A swift gust of wind might blow this 1974 Gibson L-9S Ripper away if you're not careful.

Weighing in at a few ounces over 8lbs, it's about as lightweight as you'll find one of these Bill Lawrence designed 4-strings. A super comfortable playing neck, twin "Super Humbucker" pickups with a 4-position rotary control, and Volume/Tone/Midrange controls combine to make for an incredibly versatile bass that could very well assume lead position on any gig and in any studio.

This is a very nice example that has remained almost entirely original for the last 50 years. We acquired it from its longtime previous owner, who'd taken great care of it. The original EB choke had shorted out, so we sourced a proper replacement from Curtis Novak. The electronics are now working great!

There are no breaks or structural repairs, and the finish has held up very nicely with fairly typical play wear for its age, albeit with some very light touchup in a few spots. It's accommodated by its original hardshell case.
