A converted convertible?! This 1967 Rickenbacker 336/12 shed its original comb system and lives on as a classic 12-string version of the heralded 330.

1967 Rickenbacker 336/12 in original Fireglo finish just into the shop.

This Rickenbacker began its life as one of the rare "convertible" 12-strings that utilized a comb device to grab and pull 6 of the 12 strings away. A novel and somewhat wonky contraption, it seemed better in theory than in practice.

This particular convertible has been...un...convertibled?? While it lacks the uniqueness factory of an unaltered original, the overall playability as a formidable vintage electric 12-string from the foremost electric 12-string guitar manufacturer remains.

An interesting quirk of some of these semi-hollow Rics- this guitar was earmarked as a 345/12 according to the marker and pencil inscriptions beneath the control cover. Assembled by Angelina, it's obvious that the body got sent into the 330/12 pile and eventually finished as a 336/12 Convertible. The guitar features its original Fireglo finish and dual "Toaster" pickups along with an original wiring harness, bridge, and tailpiece. The pickguard and truss rod cover are also original to the guitar. The old comb/convertible assembly screw holes were filled prior to our acquisition, and that's about all that remains of its prior configuration.

Half of the original tuners were changed out at one point, with vintage style drop-in reproduction tuners that work very nicely alongside the original Klusons.

The guitar plays great, with smooth low action and great tone thanks to those original pickups. It's got a great weight as well, coming in just a touch over 7.5lbs.

Priced with aftermarket Rickenbacker hardshell case.
