Among the most famous names in Spanish guitar making, Manuel Reyes was, for many, the quintessential flamenco luthier, a revered builder whose instruments remain highly sought after today. While Reyes principally built flamencos, the few classical builds that have surfaced over the years have been equally impressive.Playing this 1966, Reyes’ appeal is quickly apparent. It boasts a rich, characterful voice, and a very pleasing responsiveness. It is unusually adaptable. It has a depth of tone, harmonic complexity, and sustain to work beautifully for classical, yet responds with the kind of quickness, authority and snap that we would normally associate with flamenco.
The guitar comes to us from the family of the original owner, a then-aspiring classical guitar student. There are several older crack repairs. The instrument is entirely structurally sound, and now, at 60 years, makes for an exceptionally appealing vintage Spanish guitar for the advanced player, collector, or aficionado.
