Red Diamond Vintage F "Cox" (2025)
Used
Superb Red Diamond F-5, voiced after Don Macrostie's Loar-signed F5, serial #73010
It has been several years since we last had a Red Diamond F5 in the shop, and it is a treat to be able to hear it in the context of other fine F-style mandolins here right now. Don Macrostie voiced this one after the "Cox" mandolin, his Loar-signed F5 dated April 25, 1923. It sounds excellent right out of the gate, with a full low end, really nice, clear mids and the kind of chimey highs where every note has a blossoming ping of a reverb trail. Bearing a late December, 2025 label, the tone is very mature for such a young instrument. As great as it is now, we can't help but wonder just how incredible this mandolin will sound at 103.Big thanks to our friend, Jacob Joliff, for the video demo!
