This custom Powers Electric A-Type features a hand-selected quilted maple top, Full Faraday pickups, and a refined finish that elevates one of our all-time favorite modern electrics.

We’ve been with Powers Electric since the very beginning, back when Andy Powers introduced the A-Type in June 2023. In the time since, we’ve seen almost 100 of incredible builds in all kinds of finishes…But this one? This one’s in a class of its own.

At our summer Meetup with Powers Electric and Taylor Guitars, we had the chance to hand-select the quilted maple top for this guitar and the result is a true standout. The figuring is just gorgeous and paired with a gray finish, shifts the A-Type’s vibe into a more elegant, refined space - without losing an ounce of its personality or playability.

Details matter, and this one has plenty: the gray Camtail bridge (we've never seen one) and engine-turned pickup covers (same), and a top that feels alive under light. It’s tasteful, bold, and totally unique.

An ultra-comfortable neck carve and radius; Andy Powers’ original Full Faraday pickups - dynamic, quiet, and deeply musical; A tremolo system that actually holds tuning, even with expressive play.

Sonically, it’s everything we’ve come to love:
Clean tones are full-spectrum and articulate. Kick on some gain, and you’ll find sustain, touch sensitivity, and harmonic depth, all without excess noise.

Those Full Faradays remain the secret sauce of this model, and paired with the feel and balance of the build, it’s no surprise the A-Type continues to be one of our favorite modern electrics.
