Popping the case of the Tropical Turquoise A-Type open revealed a much needed pop of Southern California. This guitar just embodies warm weather and has us imagining taking the classic car down to the beach for a little surfing and some much needed relaxation.

Boston is notorious for its long, cold, dark winters and we're just starting to see glimmers of hope for an early spring. What does this have to do with guitars, you ask? Good question. Popping the case of the Tropical Turquoise A-Type open revealed a much needed pop of Southern California. This guitar just embodies warm weather and has us imagining taking the classic car down to the beach for a little surfing and some much needed relaxation.

That, in essence, is what these guitars are all about. Walk into any shop and you'll see walls full of white, black, and sunburst guitars - known quantities. You'll find a bit of that in our shop as well, truthfully, because those designs just work - the last 75 years of pop culture confirm this, right?

Fortunately for the guitar playing community, Andy Powers wants to shake things up and give players an alternative to the tried-and-true guitars that have been with us for so many decades. Like all great design, the A-Type is built off of these icons but carves its own path when and where Andy felt it was warranted. The quality of the build is something you grasp immediately when sitting down with it.

More than just their build quality, what stands out most about these guitars is how they feel after a year and a half of playing. And we’re not talking about aging in the traditional sense—we mean how they continue to resonate with us, conceptually and emotionally. As mentioned, Andy set out to create something original for players looking beyond the expected—guitarists who refuse to be defined by tradition.

Now, hundreds of A-Types later, they remain just as exciting and inspiring as they were in June of ’23. And that’s something worth considering: sure, a guitar might feel fresh now, but will it still move you years down the line? If our experience is any indication, the answer is an emphatic yes.
