Novo Guitars Mirus J Silvertone Burst

Striking enough for a stage, dynamic enough for a session. This one is a lot of fun to play.

The subtleties of a Silvertone burst can be easy to get wrong - too much flake and you're in hot rod/full on sparkle territory; too little and it's just another burst. This one threads the needle beautifully. The sparkle is sparse enough that you catch it when the guitar moves rather than head-on, and the burst underneath has the slightly murky, catalog-order quality of something that arrived from Sears in a cardboard box. It reads convincingly vintage from across a room and gets more interesting the closer you get.

Put another way? It's an incredibly cool looking guitar.

Underneath the finish is a serious instrument. Swamp ash body, 25.5" scale roasted maple neck, rosewood board, and a lightweight semi-hollow platform that feels alive and resonant before you plug it in. The medium C carve measures .83" at the first fret and feels broken in and quick, close to a '60s Strat Oval C. The body shape pulls the neck in toward you just enough that cowboy chords sit closer than you'd expect on a long scale guitar. Seated, it's genuinely comfortable.

Plugged in, the Fralin P90s find the spot between midrange clarity and growl. Tele top end with the harmonic complexity and mid push of a good LP Special or 335. Cleans shimmer through a blackface Fender, and with some gain in front of it the guitar gets muscular and expressive without losing detail. The Mastery trem and bridge keep everything stable, which means you can actually use the trem instead of admiring it.
