Some of the finest bluegrass ever recorded came down to two brothers, a guitar, and a mandolin. Jim & Jesse McReynolds built their sound on close harmony and the conversation between those two instruments. This December, Michael Daves and Jacob Jolliff are bringing that conversation to our showroom.

Michael and Jacob have been playing together on and off since 2015, and this year they released We Like Jim & Jesse!, a full-length tribute to Jim & Jesse and the Virginia Boys on Michael's label, Wild Geranium Records. The project grew out of an interview Michael did with Jesse in 2019, when Jesse was 90 and still writing new music. The record digs into the standards and the deep cuts alike, with real respect for the originals and plenty of the improvisational fire and soaring harmony these two are known for.

The New York Times has called Michael a "leading light of the New York bluegrass scene." He earned a Grammy nomination for his work with Chris Thile and has shared stages with Tony Trischka, Andy Statman, Bruce Molsky, Peter Rowan, and Bryan Sutton. His guitar playing and singing reach straight back to the high lonesome roots of bluegrass while leaving plenty of room for modern ideas.

Jacob has toured with Béla Fleck's My Bluegrass Heart and with Yonder Mountain String Band, and he leads his own quartet. If you play mandolin, keep an eye on his picking hand. His crosspicking and improvising are something to see up close.

We're keeping this one intimate, with room for just 65 people, so you'll be close enough to catch every note and every harmony. Tickets are $40. Grab yours early, and we'll see you in December.
