The Hybrid Scott Lentz, or HSL, pairs a Lentz L90 pickup in the neck with a T-style pickup at the bridge, and the result is a guitar that moves easily from country chicken pickin' to warm, traditional jazz tones, to straight up rock tones.Think of it as a Tele with extra muscle. A P90-style pickup in the neck might lead you to expect a thick, gritty voice, but Lentz wound their own pickups, and the L90 leans toward Fender territory: picture a Strat neck pickup with fuller mids. At the bridge, the B'Kaster pickup brings all the snap and cut you'd want for twang and lead work, along with some extra punch (it's a 10k pickup, but without the downsides of a pickup that hot).
The real magic is in the wiring. Each pickup gets its own volume, sharing a master tone, which sounds familiar enough, but Lentz has dialed the harness in so carefully that you can leave the three-way switch in the middle and fade smoothly from one pickup to the other. Every shade between the two is right there under your fingers, from bright and spanky to round and full, without ever touching the switch.
That range makes the HSL an especially natural fit for studio and working players who need one guitar to cover a lot of ground. Incredible stuff here folks!
