If you want a punchy sounding SG with a full neck carve and great T-Tops, you got it.

1969 Gibson SG Standard just in!

This '69 is one of those guitars that seems to have a little extra happening in the tone department. The original T-Top Patent # humbuckers are frankly exceptional sounding in this guitar! Open and clear like an old PAF while also having this great upper midrange vocal-like punch many of the later 60s Gibson humbuckers seem to embody.

As far as SG Standards from this period go, this is a perfect example of a transitional build that has some of the desirable '68 features while stepping into the end of the decade and showing where Gibson was headed. It has a pre-volute 3-piece Mahogany neck with a nice rounded C profile and meaty taper. The newer Walnut finish paired with the wide bevel pickguard and witch hat knobs is such a great look as well. Standards from this period almost always shipped with a Lyre vibrola, as did this one. At one point, however, it was converted to a stoptail. Vibrola mounting holes (and even the original grounding wire) remain, should its next owner wish to explore reverting it to factory spec. The conversion work is clean, and the guitar's sustain and stability is definitely improved. It also doesn't hurt that the guitar weighs just 6lbs!

The guitar received a fresh set of frets in-house and plays phenomenally. The bridge and stopbar tailpiece are the only real hardware/parts changes to the guitar, as the plastics, pickups, and wiring are original.

We've been getting some really great vintage late 60s SGs in as of recent, and this one is no exception. Lightweight, great neck, amazing sounding pickups... just a total monster of a guitar.

Priced with period Gibson hardshell.
