Does this guitar even need an introduction?

The legendary Gibson Les Paul Junior is quite possibly the perfect example of less is more - a single cutaway Mahogany body with a single dogear P90 pickup, wraparound tailpiece, and volume/tone controls with a Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard. Nothing fancy here, folks. The focus is all on the tone and the feel, and this 1958 Gibson Les Paul Junior has both in spades.

We often prescribe these Juniors as the answer to Fender's Esquire model in so many ways - they are some of the brighter and chimier Gibson solidbodies produced. However, once in a while you'll come across a Junior like this one that was injected with rocket fuel from the factory.

With its original P90 pickup measuring it in 8.18k DCR, it sure does know how to light up the preamp section of an amp. The expected tones are there - bright, chimey with tone all the way up, a little darker and fatter when tone is backed off. But this Junior has some really heavyweight punch in it - it just explodes with rich midrange response that makes it sound twice as big as it is.

At just over 7lbs on our scale, it's right in the sweet spot for Juniors. The neck carve is excellent - a fuller C carve with a lovely taper that's just lean enough on the shoulders to not feel too clubby. The smaller original fretwire is in great shape and feels excellent under-hand.

As you might have guessed, this Junior is in excellent condition through and through. All parts are original, including the wiring harness, wraparound bridge, tuners, and plastics. There's a very small chip in the nut on the low E side that doesn't affect playability. Sure, there's some finish and play wear (most notably on the body edges and back of the body), but it's a no-excuses Junior that has remained intact throughout its 60+ years.

LP Juniors really can do it all, and the proof is in a guitar like this very '58.
