Gibson L7-C Sunburst 64102 (1963)

Shockingly clean and unsurprisingly great sounding, could you find a better example of an L7-C? We think not...

Do guitars this clean really exist? We admittedly struggled with it when we first laid eyes on the guitar. How does this happen? Is it even possible that they can be so well-preserved? Though it took a couple of days and thorough evaluation by practically every staff member, the results are pretty conclusive. It just really is THAT clean.

The guitar came from a collection out in Western MA, and prior to its arrival here, it had its frets replaced. Why, we don't really know - I mean, look at the guitar! Nobody ever played it!

Aside from that recently performed work, this guitar is just immaculate in the truest sense of word. The Sunburst finish is incredibly vibrant and unfaded, the tuning machines look almost brand new, and even the orange label inside the F hole looks like a fresh Murphy Lab printout. It's also quite light for a 17" archtop, and very resonant at that. Thanks to its quick playing slim C neck profile, it's a joy to play both as a rhythm strummer or as a leading melodic soloist.

If we had one critique (which really wouldn't exist without the remarkable condition it presents), it would be the remnants of what appears to be some buffing compound that seemed to have partially impregnated itself into the finish very lightly on the back of the headstock and also just off the edge of the treble side fingerboard extension. Again, we're being picky because there's just nothing else to say about condition other than "wow".

It's paired with - you guessed it - an equally clean pebble grain Lifton hardshell case. The handle had broken off at some point, but a reissue handle could be sourced and reinstalled if desired.
