Gibson L-00 FON 920 (1935)
Vintage
A customer just south of us here in New England discovered this guitar in a pawn shop that was going out of business and brought it to us. Imagine our shock when we saw how nicely it's weathered the years (not to mention its nice original hard case). Before arriving at TME, the bridge had been replaced and the neck had been reset (the work is clean and professional). Our shop has refretted it, installed a new saddle, and shored up a small back crack. Otherwise, this guitar is extremely clean for a 30's L-00.
Tonally, it's wide-open and punchy, exhibiting the characteristic chunky midrange of a post-1934 L-00. It's very resonant and responsive in-hand, and its V-shaped neck feels just about perfect. As mentioned, this L-00 simply has it all: sound, looks, and collectibility.
Priced with the aforementioned original hard case.
