Gibson ES-335TD Sunburst (1966)
Semi-Hollow · HH (2 Humbuckers) Pickups · Vintage
An inspiringly great '66 ES-335 that'll hang with the best of 'em.
1966 Gibson ES-335TD in original Sunburst just into the shop on consignment!Late 50s, early 60s, late 60s - does it matter, really?! A vintage ES-335 from any of these periods is hard to beat. They're such versatile electrics, and aside from some minor changes through the 60s, they're still cornerstones of the vintage guitar world in many respects.
This is one clean 335, my friends! Aside from a recent refret and replaced nut, we've got an absolute specimen here. It's even got its original hardshell case, hang tag, and Gibson string hang tag! The original Pat # humbuckers are just phenomenal sounding, with a bridge pickup tone that'll work LPs into a tizzy! Like many of the '65-'66 pickups, you're still getting a taste of the late-era PAF tone with a slight shift in EQ. These tend to be a touch brighter/clearer in their own way. Just excellent pickups!
The Sunburst finish is very vibrant and largely unfaded, and all of the hardware and plastics are nice and clean. The Maple has some nice burl-like Birdseye figure on the lower bout, too. The original Klusons work great, and the refret was very well done. Playability is top notch. You'll see fairly common lacquer checking throughout, but all in all, this is such a fine and clean example of one of these guitars.
