Gibson ES-330TD, Sunburst (1966)
Hollow-Body · Vintage
A lifetime local Gibson ES-330 in from its original owner, this mid 60s fully hollow thinline is a fabulous sounding and playing electric that transcends genre and style. It's capable of doing just about anything.
Purchased new at EU Wurlitzer in Boston, the original owner played and cherished this guitar for over 55 years. With the exception of an in-house refret performed shortly after acquiring the guitar, it has remained 100% original. The Sunburst finish still pops with the contrast of chrome hardware, black pickguard, and reflector knobs, all with a healthy dose of natural aging throughout. The P90 pickups are powerful and authoritative - a common trait found in many of these mid 60s ES-330s. Higher in output and well matched, both neck and bridge pickups have a bold, punchy response that responds really well to pick attack as well as adjustments in volume and tone.
The neck feels very similar to a '62 carve, with a slim C shape and moderate taper. It's slightly rounder than some of the flatter profiles found during the beginning of that decade, making it really comfortable in most any position on the neck. Combine that with some brand new frets courtesy of our repair staffer Glenn Nichols, and you've got an ultimate player in your hands.
Paired up with a modern TKL hardshell case, it's about as no-nonsense as you'll find in one of these guitars.
