Gibson Country Western 365615 (1965)
Vintage
The Country Western's square-shouldered era began in 1962; and its stripped-down aesthetic has made it a perennial "great first vintage guitar" since its price point has remained below that of the comparably decorated Hummingbird. (Aside from rare Maple-bodied 1962 variants, a Hummingbird and a Country Western are materially identical.)
The Country Western is inextricably linked to songwriters like Sheryl Crow and modern troubador Lukas Nelson. And the lineage is clear. This guitar is a no-frills fountain of tone, ideally suited to singers who want an unobtrusive and reliably great-sounding instrument. The subject guitar would please any player in search of such a flattop. While it sports the narrower, 1 9/16" nut width, we don't think you'll worry too much about that after banging out the first few chords of your favorite songs. Although the guitar is very clean, its voice is wide-open, bright, and powerful, with great punch in the low midrange.
Our shop has given the guitar a fresh setup, dressing the frets and installing a plate mate to protect the bridge pin holes from further wear. The playability is excellent under tension of light gauge strings. Priced with its original hard case.
