For years, the earliest Silverface Fenders were some of the best sleeper vintage values on the market. These transitional CBS-era amplifiers often reveal themselves as true Blackface-circuit amplifiers under the hood, but had been historically priced (and classified) as the less desirable Silverface versions.

For some reason, these early Silverface 1968 Princeton Reverbs seem to be a standout, even among their more-desired true Blackface cousins. With two of our team members owning original '68 Princeton Reverbs, it's made abundantly clear that they have just a little bit extra to give without sacrificing what has made these low-wattage combos so revered in the first place.

This is an incredibly clean example that is about as original as you can get - all transformers are original with unmodified (but serviced) circuitry. The tolex, grill cloth, drip edge baffle trim, faceplate, and knobs are borderline NOS-level (just look at how clean the knobs are!). Outside of some minor pitting on the handle caps and chassis rails, you could be convinced this was a gently used reissue.

It's currently loaded with a Celestion Alnico Gold 10, which is also among one of our personal favorites in this amp (TME staffer Dan's personal '68 PR has the same speaker in it). The original Oxford is included with the sale for posterity, but the Celestion sounds magnificent and feels right at home, adding a little extra jangle up top with some sweet low end and low midrange response not often found in the stock ceramic speakers. The original Silverface-spec two button footswitch is also included.

Princeton Reverbs never seem to go out of style. These great vintage combos are about as close to do-it-all low powered amps as you'll ever find.
