Fender Jazz Bass, Sunburst (1968)
Long Scale (Bass) · Vintage
This mid-year example of Fender's legendary electric bass is about a clean as you'll ever encounter one, and without question the cleanest from this period we've had in the shop.
What makes this Jazz Bass so unique beyond its condition is its transitional features - most notably the decal and the tuners. The former - a pre-1968 logo - is very clean and unfaded as one might expect given the condition of the bass as a whole. The latter? Fender's own tuners made their way onto basses some time in 1966 and were phased out in early 1968, making them one of the rarer variants of Fender hardware in the company's history. While we're not ones to pass up an opportunity to chat about these idiosynchratic details, it ultimately pales in comparison to how these CBS-Era Fenders actually play and sound. This Jazz Bass has an incredible playing neck that is both comfortable and resonant, and with the entire instrument weighing in just over 9lbs, it's very well balanced.
The original grey bottom pickups sound great, with an untouched wiring harness to boot. Perhaps the only change is by way of some shielding tape added to the control cavity and the back of the pickguard. We've elected to leave it be and let the next owner decide if they want to remove it.
Otherwise, it's about as buttoned up and clean a Jazz Bass as you'll find from ANY period.
Priced with vintage Fender hardshell case in equally excellent condition.
