1961 Fender Duo Sonic just in!
These are such fun and toneful guitars, and share a lot of DNA with the legendary Strats and Teles of their day.
We acquired this guitar from its original owner, who'd received the guitar as a young man in its original Desert Sand finish. He later took to removing the Desert Sand and finishing it over in clear lacquer as you see it now, but the original finish remains in some of the cavities.
The original Fender decal was also removed at some point, so we've had a quality repro decal installed in its place.
The original single coil pickups - much like a Stratocaster but without exposed polepieces - sound phenomenal in this guitar! Fat, rich, and clear with very nice output. We're particularly fond of the neck pickup in this one - it's about a stratty a sound as you'll get out of a Duo Sonic!
The original frets were fairly worn out, so we replaced them in-house with Jescar 43080 vintage sized wire, and it's back to playing like it was the day it shipped out of Fullerton. The slab Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is gorgeous as well, and contrasts nicely against the lighter pickguard and ambered clear coat finish over the Poplar body. It's one of those instances where we honestly don't mind the old refin - it looks great! This will be a hard one to let go, as it very quickly became a staff favorite.
It comes in its original brown hardshell case and includes the bridge cover (as pictured).
