This Custom Shop Postmodern Tele delivers modern performance with a nod to its roots.
Looking for something a little different from the Fender Custom Shop? If you've already got your vintage-style Tele and want something that leans more modern in feel and vibe, this Postmodern Telecaster DLX Closet Classic is it.
Built with a 2-piece ash body and finished in a fantastic looking Aged Crimson Burst, this Tele looks and feels a bit more like a boutique guitar than we're used to seeing from the vintage-leaning Custom Shop.
The all rosewood neck features a comfortable '60s Oval "C" profile (if you love Strats, you'll instantly bond with this profile), 21 Narrow Tall frets, and a 9.5–12" compound radius that makes bending and lead work effortless. Lead-focused players will appreciate how easy it is to run lines on a flatter board, especially if other Tele's with more traditional radius'd necks have fought you in the past.
Custom Shop Hand-Wound pickups - a Twisted Tele in the neck and a Crushed '50/'51 Blackguard in the bridge - deliver the right blend of clarity, bite, and punch. With the bridge pickup being flipped, the pole pieces are further from the bridge which means the G through high E strings aren't ice-picky in the trebles. It's almost as if you've run your traditional Tele through a really nice compressor. The reversed pickup arrangement is a bit more attenuated in those really high treble frequencies and also makes the guitar sound more balanced. It's a really cool, if subtle, effect.
A reverse Nocaster bridge with brass RSD saddles holds tuning steady and helps with accurate. With vintage-style tuners, parchment pickguard, reverse wiring (Volume first, 3-way switch in the back), and all the right small touches, this Tele delivers modern performance with a nod to its roots.
