Fender 5B3 'Wide Panel' Deluxe (USED, 1952)
One of the most iconic amplifier designs from the pioneering mind of Leo Fender, the Wide Panel 5B3 Deluxe represents the early Tweed sound to a tee. Running on a pair of 6V6 power tubes cathode-biased for 10 watts output and with an octal tube preamp, the Wide Panel Deluxe offers up distinct and harmonically rich tonal character in a low-volume package.
Simple yet effective and highly interactive volume and tone controls cover a tremendous amount of range - go from glassy low volume cleans to singing power tube break up and overdrive with a quick tweak of the knobs. The original Jensen P12R sounds great and complements the circuit wonderfully with some vintage alnico compression and a woody and bright top end.
This amp has been recently serviced by local amp tech extraordinaire Stan Day and is outfitted with a proper replacement OT (original OT is included) and a 3-prong power cord for safety, along with a recap in the power section. The original lacquered tweed covering is in great shape for its age. The rear panel was subject to some intense heat seemingly long ago, and did not impact the panel itself or the chassis. This is purely cosmetic.
Early Tweed tones in a compact and lightweight cabinet don't get much better than this!
