Though not quite as rare as the '64 we recently posted and sold almost immediately, this '67 Riviera shares much of the great qualities that have made these go-to semi-hollow electrics for decades. For one, they mimic the ES-335 body construction to a tee (same materials, same makers). Second, the bring their own unique and frankly fantastic sound to the table that separates them from their Gibson counterparts, chiefly with the use of the mini humbuckers. When you combine the body with these electronics, you get this beautifully airy electric sound that has more clarity and brightness, allowing an ES-style guitar to cut through a mix like none other. Still, it sweetens up with a little tone knob manipulation, and has plenty of punch and growl with amp/pedal gain to make you think twice about a 335.
This is a lovely playing and sounding example that is mostly original save for the pickguard and the frets. At some point, it was Schaller-ized, but we undid that here in our repair shop and reinstalled proper vintage Kluson double-line tuners.
What's not to love here?! Great looks, great tone, and great feel that all combines for truly great value in a 60s Gibson-made ES.
