These are D’Addario’s phosphor bronze strings in a medium 13-56 gauge, made at their facility in New York, and the heavier gauge is what sets them apart. More string mass and more tension mean more volume and projection, with a fuller low end and a punch that holds up when you dig in.

That makes them a natural fit for dreadnoughts and other bigger-bodied guitars, and for flatpickers and bluegrass players who need the guitar to cut through a jam. Phosphor bronze gives them a warm, rich voice with plenty of sparkle on top, and the wraps sit on a hex-shaped high-carbon steel core that grips the winding tightly for consistent tone and tuning stability.

Mediums ask a bit more of your fretting hand than lights, and they put more tension on the guitar, so if you’re switching up from a lighter set, it’s worth having the setup checked to make sure the neck relief and action are where you want them.
