This brand new Collings 620 in Iced Tea Sunburst is part of a new lineup of electric offerings from our great friends in Austin! While it shares its silhouette with the fully hollow, deeper bodied alternate bearing the SM LC suffix, the "standard" 620 pulls inspiration from the I-35LC Vintage model.
It is decidedly more vintage-leaning in its feel and response that gives it a distinct flavor from that of its contemporaries. Still, every hallmark of Collings' legendary craftsmanship is here: impeccable build quality, meticulous detail, and effortless playability. They're also quite lightweight, with this particular 620 just eclipsing 7lbs on our scale.
Loaded with a set of Throbak SLE101+ humbuckers gives this 620 a voice like no other, with a fat, authoritative tone reminiscent of some of our favorite early 60s set-neck electrics. They really come alive with some gain, which has this 620 easily copping a bit of an LP voice with a rich and quick attack. Yet the semi-hollow construction elicits an airier, more open quality to the notes that we often associate in a great 335.
While it's easy to draw comparisons to some of our favorite vintage electrics, there's no doubt that the 620 has a voice all its own. The Collings DNA is inarguable - the fit, finish, and feel are unparalleled, all without feeling stiff or over-engineered. A hard line to balance, but the Austin, TX builders do it oh-so-well.
We're blown away by this new model, and feel like it'll represent Collings in the brightest of lights for years to come.

Brand Story
"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more."
