The TME Lexingtone Series focuses on our endless pursuit and passion to bring some of our favorite guitar designs from the Golden Era and beyond into the modern world.

The first in an ever-growing series of uniquely spec'ed instruments is this incredible Collings 290. Taking some inspiration from great late 50s electrics, it sheds some of the "what if" notions in favor of "why not" in an elegant yet accessible take on an otherwise traditionally styled guitar.

The first thing that probably jumps out about this build is the combination of a P90 and humbucker. Although a rarely seen configuration, we've encountered it in both vintage and modern electrics that have proven just how versatile it can be. Sweet, chimey clear P90 tones in the neck position complements the warmth, fullness, and power of the humbucker in the bridge position. The handwound Ron Ellis pickups have incredible depth of tone and clarity as well, giving this 290 boundless access to all styles of music.

Slightly understated in its presentation, it still shows off a beautiful slab of Honduran Mahogany for the body beneath the rich Tobacco Sunburst finish. It's an incredibly light instrument as well- one of the lightest 290s we've ever held here at TME, and we've handled A LOT. At just over 6.5lbs on our scale, we're not sure a solid Mahogany bodied electric can get much lighter!
