A "Best In Show" Strat from one of the best production years, this Sunburst '64 checks all the boxes

1964 Fender Stratocaster in Sunburst finish just into the shop!

When it comes to 1960s Stratocasters, those built in 1964 seem to have it all. Subjective, we know, but there's enough history to support that opinion. This pre-CBS build seemed to have cleared the bench at the tail end of Summer in Fullerton, and still has some of the most desirable features such as black bobbin pickups, mint guard, and "spaghetti" logo.

It's a goldilocks guitar in a lot of ways. Great weight hovering just around 7.5lbs, excellent neck that's comfortable with some substance but not to unwieldy, and well-balanced pickups that have wonderful output.

Taking a look through the photos, and you can draw a pretty accurate conclusion as to its condition. It's a very, very clean guitar that was clearly well-loved and well-maintained. The original Sunburst finish is very vibrant and hasn't faded out much at all, and all of the plastics and hardware lack the wear we typically find with a guitar from this era that's seen any consistent amount of play time. Outside of the typical neck pickup screw crack in the pickguard, there's not much to point to cosmetically that would stand out.

The guitar was expertly refretted by NYC repair guru Norio Imai back in 2017. It plays wonderfully with a great low-medium setup and straight neck. The guitar includes its original ashtray bridge cover, tremolo arm, and equally clean "no logo" black hardshell case.
