'Honey, I Shrunk The Tweed!'

1952 Fender 5B1 Champion 600 tube-power combo amp made in Fulerton, CA.

Check out this 'lil guy! One of Fender's earliest Tweed Era creations, this 5B1 Champion 600 combo represents the second iteration of the famed lap steel outfit amplifier, just after transitioning from the two-tone aesthetic that made them one of the most recognizable "shoebox" combos of the 20th Century.

Pushing about 3 watts of power via a 6V6 power tube and a 6" speaker, the Champion 600 is simplicity personified. Like many of the '5 Watt & Under' crowd of the 1950s and 1960s, this Champion is a lightweight when it comes to volume (and actual weight), but really impresses with natural tube driven tone that makes it an ace for recording. This one just recently came in from a local customer and had already gone through some servicing at some point, which included installation of a 3-prong power cord, handle, and Utah speaker. We sent it off to Stan Day who swapped out a weak 6SJ7 preamp tube and some fussy caps and resistors. The original transformers remain, as well as the tweed covering and grill cloth.

About as close as you'll come to finding a pocket amp from this era, this Champion 600 would sit proud and mighty amongst a great collection of vintage Fenders and the like, and be a great choice for recording or casual home playing.

**Please Note: All vintage amplifiers - regardless of service history - contain electronic components that will eventually require replacement or repair. This is often unpredictable and should be expected as a vintage amplifier owner. We are not responsible for additional service upon receipt. We also do not guarantee tube life.**
