Product information

1991 Gibson Master Model L-4 CES Natural just into the shop on consignment!

This beautiful L-4 CES recently came into the shop from a professional musician who kept it in steady gigging rotation for years. Interestingly enough, the timing of the arrival of this guitar coincides with another instrument built by the same master craftsman - Mr. Jim Triggs!

Jim headed up Gibson's earliest iteration of the Custom Shop, specializing in their archtop models. After great success at Gibson, he went on to build his own high end archtops under his own Triggs name. It's really cool to see Jim's work span from legacy guitar company to small shop, and celebrate the quality of his work.

The L-4 CES is the ultimate player's electric archtop. Sharing its body style and size with the ES-175 but utilizing a solid carved Spruce top like an L-5, the L-4 CES strikes a wonderful balance between acoustic and electric. It's a very rewarding and dynamic guitar that impresses acoustically just as it does plugged in.

This '91 has aged quite gracefully, with its Natural finish softening to an Amber hue. Lacquer checking can be seen throughout as well. The guitar suffered a headstock break some years ago, but was solidly repaired prior to the consignor's acquisition. The guitar had also been refretted.

Near 35 years since Jim signed the interior Master Model label on this guitar, this L-4 CES continues to sing and mature like a fine guitar should!
