The Collings MF5 Varnish is well-deserving of it's place at the top of the Collings mandolin lineup, with a dynamic and nuanced voice that excels in nearly any context.
A quick glance at the condition of this pre-owned Collings MF5V offers little to suggest the nearly thirteen years of play it has under its belt, but one strum conveys an openness and depth of tone that only comes with age. All the adjectives we are used to applying to Collings mandolins are present here in spades--bold, articulate, and chimey--with the added pop and dynamic liveliness of a varnish finish and years of play. This instrument has been very well cared for over the years, but it does display some evidence of use, notably a few scattered dings/indentations on the top, and light scratches on the pickguard.Priced includes an older, Texas-built Calton flight case in brown with green interior. On consignment.
