Powers Electric A-Type FF42 Camtail Glacier Burst

Three years on, still the coolest “something different” you can add to your collection.

The Powers Electric A-Type has been on the market since 2023, and if you're a guitar nut like us, you’ve likely heard the story: the Southern California-inspired specs and Andy Powers’ vision for these instruments. The real question is, how are they three years on?

For our money, they’re every bit as inspiring as the day they launched. The A-Type earns its spot once you already have your favorite electrics (your Strats, Teles, Gibsons) and want something different. Not wildly different. Not a work of art that hangs on the wall and never gets played. A functional, high-performance instrument with its own vibe, feel, and tone. You’d be hard pressed to find a cooler option.

This gorgeous Glacier Burst A-Type has everything we’ve come to love about the model: an ultra-comfortable neck profile and fingerboard radius, a brilliantly designed tremolo that holds its tuning, and Andy Powers’ original Full Faraday (FF42) pickups. These are the same pickups the model launched with: quiet, dynamic, and beautifully voiced.

Clean, they’re thick and full-spectrum. Kick on a medium- to high-gain pedal and they come alive with sustain, clarity, and virtually no noise. They’re the secret sauce that makes the A-Type such a joy to play, and paired with its feel, it’s no wonder this model has had us hooked since day one.

Highlights? Effortless playability, balanced and touch-sensitive tones that reward you every time you pick it up, and the CamTail. Playing a chord and dipping the bar a whole step while the chord stays in tune is a remarkable experience.
