D’Arcy Blake is proof that plenty of incredible makers are quietly building heirloom-quality instruments in workshops just out of sight, under the radar of most guitar buyers (for now, at least).
We met D’Arcy at the 2026 Fretboard Summit in Chicago and were immediately taken with his story and his instruments. He’s an alum of Roger Sadowsky’s iconic NYC shop (so many remarkable makers have passed through it). About D'Arcy, Roger had this to say:
"I have been building full time for 54 years now, and I am not exaggerating when I say that D’Arcy is the most talented woodworker I have ever known."
High praise, indeed!
D’Arcy made his name with gorgeous archtops, which he still builds, before turning his attention to the semi-hollowbody. We’re glad he did, because his take on this classic design brings something genuinely new to the table.
The sunburst top on this semi-hollow, our first from the Brooklyn-based builder, will catch your eye first. Then you see it from the side and realize how thin it is: 1 1/8" to be exact (!). With its Honduran mahogany body, flamed hard maple top and Florentine cutaway, the thin profile settles against your body for an instant connection.
The standard C neck is another highlight. Honduran mahogany with an ebony fingerboard, it feels solid and agile in hand, and the impeccable fretwork makes for an effortless, responsive, deluxe playing experience.
Plugged in, the Tone Specific Deluxe 57/62 pickups deliver a beautiful midrange and top end while letting the guitar’s dynamic range breathe. In Tone Specific’s own words:
“This is not about extreme output or coloration. It is about warmth, clarity and sustain. The way a note feels and responds, the way it sits in the mix, and holds together.
Play lightly and the tone stays open and articulate. Dig in and it responds with warmth, control, and natural compression. It’s the tone serious players discover after trying everything else.”
As with most things in life, timing is everything. This semi-hollow sold about 15 minutes after a friend and local customer picked it up in the shop. True story, no hype. Every instrument is thoroughly checked and set up before shipping fully insured via UPS with tracking to your door. We reuse boxes and materials to cut waste when they meet our protection standard.
Inspect it, play it, and if it isn't right, contact us within 48 hours of delivery to arrange a return or one-time exchange. Returns are subject to a 5% restocking fee, and the buyer covers shipping both ways.
