Product information

Some guitars announce themselves quietly. The Collings D2H isn't one of them.

This is a dreadnought built to project - deep, focused bass and a sledgehammer midrange punch that flatpickers will recognize immediately as exactly what they've been looking for. It anchors a bluegrass band without asking permission, and it does it with the kind of clarity and definition that separates a truly great flattop from a merely good one. Up close, it's also simply stunning to look at.

The material choices are exactly what you'd want for this application. Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides - a pairing with decades of proven precedent in serious acoustic guitar building, executed here with Collings' characteristically meticulous attention to fit and finish.

The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer lets the instrument breathe and age naturally, and it gives the D2H a visual depth that photographs don't fully capture. The scalloped, forward-shifted bracing is a significant part of the story. It opens up the bass response and gives the top more freedom to move, which translates directly into that focused low end and the midrange authority this guitar carries. It's a responsive instrument - dynamic and touch-sensitive in a way that rewards a player who has something to say.

The modified V neck carve is a deliberate choice for a guitar in this role - comfortable for long playing sessions, familiar to anyone who has spent time with vintage Martins, and well-suited to the 1¾" nut width and 25.5" scale. Ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, Waverly tuners, MOP diamond and square inlays. Every appointment is right where it should be.
