Collings MF5 Varnish Honey Amber Birdseye Maple (2014)
Used
Well maintained, great-sounding example of Collings' prized varnish-finished F mandolin, in the very desirable Honey Amber finish.
The Birdseye maple and Italian spruce tonewood combination offers a potent pairin on a Collings mandolin: no matter what the model, it always seems to amp up the power and projection while retaining an underlying sweetness of tone and round, poppy note attack. Underneath a varnish finish, this makes for a mandolin that's all the more responsive and dynamic, spanning the gamut from classical music to hard driving bluegrass with ease. This mandolin shows some signs of play wear, mostly notably to the top, light marks on the back of neck. Those who need pristine should consider a new mandolin, but anyone looking for a well-loved, nicely broken in MF5V should have this one on their short list!
