A one-of-a-kind TME Spec'd Powers Electric A-Type with a hand-picked quilt top, custom Light Pale Ale finish, Full Faraday pickups, and the effortless playability we love.

We’ve been with Powers Electric since day one, when Andy Powers launched the A-Type in June 2023. In the two years since, we’ve seen dozens of them in a variety of finishes - but this one is something else entirely.

At our summer Meetup with Powers Electric and Taylor Guitars, we had the chance to hand-pick the quilted maple top for this build and spec its custom “Light Pale Ale” color. The result is a true one-of-a-kind: a top you’d expect to see on a Custom Shop Les Paul, paired with a finish that shifts the A-Type’s vibe into elegant, refined territory without losing its versatility and accessibility.

Beyond the looks, this guitar has everything we’ve come to love about the A-Type: an ultra-comfortable neck profile and fingerboard radius, a brilliantly designed tremolo that stays perfectly in tune, even when you depress the bar, and Andy Powers’ original Full Faraday pickups. These are the same pickups that launched the model - quiet, dynamic, and beautifully voiced.

Clean, they’re thick and full-spectrum in the best ways. Kick on your medium to high gain pedals, and they come alive with sustain, clarity, and virtually no noise. They’re the secret sauce that makes the A-Type such a joy to play. Pair that with the playability and feel, and it’s no wonder this model has had us hooked since day one.
