This 1964 Martin D-28 is an excellent example of the sort of guitar we often direct people towards when they're interested in a first vintage guitar. Made right at the end of Martin's tenure in their original Pennsylvania factory, it retains the small maple bridge plate, hide glue construction, and generally lighter build structure associated with "old factory" guitars. This particular D-28 is indeed excellent-sounding. It comes to us from the estate of friend; and its most recent owner had a penchant for collecting extremely fine examples of vintage instruments. This guitar is woody, open, and powerful, with that beautiful, earthy shimmer & complexity linked to Brazilian Rosewood guitars. Its sound is meaty enough to anchor a bluegrass band, yet lush and delicate enough for disciples of Joni Mitchell and Michael Hedges. In short, a 60's D-28 with tone this nice hasn't been in the shop in a long while.
Condition: vintage excellent. Although no traceable history of repairs exists for this guitar, it's our belief NH-based luthier, Pat DiBurro, performed a neck reset and re-fret on this guitar at some point in the recent past, buffing the finish at the same time. A strap button hole in the neck heel has been filled. All that said: we consider this D-28 to be as close to "as clean as they come" as it gets. Truly, this is a dynamite-sounding old D-28 in fantastic shape; and it's priced with its original hardshell case.
