A 2007 Grosh Set Neck in Violin Amber Burst over quilted maple, with a Brazilian board, a big '59-style carve, and Lindy Fralin humbuckers.

Like any Grosh, the build quality on this Set Neck is off the charts. Fit, finish, and fretwork are all exactly where you want them, and this one came with its original build sheet, which is always a treat.

It was ordered in January of 2007 and completed that September. Mahogany body with a quilted maple top, finished in Violin Amber Burst, with inset black binding, chrome hardware, and an ebony headstock overlay. The amber burst over quilt is a combination that reads differently depending on where you're standing, tight and figured under direct light and much deeper and more liquid across the room. Either direction, this top pops - no peek-a-boo figuring here.

The neck carve is a big but comfy one, .875" at the first fret and .975" at the twelfth, and it feels like it came straight out of the late '50s Gibson factory. Let's call it somewhere between a '58 & '59 carve. It fills the hand perfectly and allows for a more relaxed left hand technique. 12" radius Brazilian rosewood board with 6150 medium frets, on a 24.75" scale with a 1 11/16" nut. The silver surround dots really jump off the Brazilian, making it easy to navigate in both dark and bright environments.

This is a snappy, resonant, alive feeling guitar with plenty of sustain on tap. Plugged in you're greeted with muscular, open, and well-balanced tones. The Lindy Fralin humbuckers here are wound to 8k in the neck and 9k in the bridge with nickel covers, which is right in the sweet spot for this style of guitar. Warm, fat, round, clear, and punchy from clean through distorted, and low enough in output that the guitar stays articulate when you push it rather than turning into mush. Two volumes, two tones, and a three-way toggle, into a tune-o-matic and stop tail.

Grosh Set Necks don't come through often, so if you're in the market for a great LP style build, this should be on your list.
Condition: Used. Aside from a small patch of very shallow/minimal belt buckle rash on the back and a finish smudge on the logo area of the headstock, this is a very clean and well cared for instrument. No fret wear.
