Product information

A masterclass in archtop tone from a living legend in modern lutherie.

While best known for his world-class mandolins, Steve Gilchrist has made many fine archtop guitars throughout his storied career. As anyone who has had the pleasure of hearing a Gilchrist archtop will attest, the guitars are surely the equal of his phenomenal mandolins in workmanship and sound.

The first sixteen-inch model Gilchrist built to his understated, wood-forward "Junior" specifications, it features an impeccable European spruce top paired to a lovely Red maple back and sides set. Tonally, this Model 16 Junior leans decidedly warm and round, with a forgiving midrange and measured treble range. Easily one of the more acoustically rich archtop guitars we've encountered.

The neck is quite comfortable, particularly for an acoustic player, with a wide 1 13/16" nut and relatively slim, modern C-profile neck carve.

Aftermarket, expertly added pickup and side fret markers.
