Product information

This 1944 Gibson LG2 is just into the shop on trade! It's a rare Maple-backed variant of the most well-known "Banner" era small-bodied Gibson; and it sounds just wonderful. The chunky, full thickness neck profile makes it an excellent strumming guitar. And with Maple's natural brightness and compression, we imagine this instrument would record like a dream. If you split time between flatpicking, fingerpicking, strumming, and singing with your guitar, and you're looking for a small-bodied Gibson to support all those passions, this LG2's sound gets our highest marks!

This guitar remains in very good vintage condition. There are three repaired top cracks, alongside the sort of playwear and finish checking you'd expect to see on an 80-year old guitar that's spent its life in service. The tuner buttons have been replaced. Our shop has set the guitar up anew and lowered the previously-fit saddle. The action sits at 3/32" on the bass and treble sides under tension of light-gauge strings. The guitar plays cleanly up and down the neck in service of traditional styles of music. It's likely not the right fit for someone who desires super-low, modern fingerstyle action (though we probably wouldn't direct those players to a vintage guitar with a neck this big in the first place). Priced with hardshell case. Expedited shipping only at online checkout -- please contact us for Ground options!
