Just in on consignment - a 1956 Gibson Les Paul Special!
This twin pickup TV Yellow LP is a fabulous example that comes to us from its second owner. Outside of a replaced dot inlay at the fifth fret and re-tipped Kluson tuners, it's as clean and original as you'll find one.
Rich, strong, yet balanced single coil tone is the calling card of these mid/late 50s Specials and their P90s. These pickups do not disappoint! We're loving the sound of this guitar into a clean amp just as much as we do when it's hitting some overdrive.
The fat, round neck with a hint of Soft V is prototypical mid 50s in profile, and the original small fretwire still offers great playability with unmistakable vintage feel. At 7lb 8oz, it's a particularly lightweight example of one of these models. The fatter neck and slab Mahogany body balance out very nicely as well.
It's not uncommon to see these models paired with chipboard cases, so imagine our delight in discovering that this '56 TV Special had been kept in a gorgeous Lifton "Cali Girl" hardshell case! These cases represent the very best Lifton had to offer for Les Paul models, and they've become one of the most sought-after vintage cases on the market. The 4-latch case is clean and structurally sound, and shows a small freight decal on the upper headstock area that provides some unique historical context to this killer LP!
