Gibson Firebird V Sunburst (1964)
Solid Body · HH (2 Humbuckers) Pickups · Vintage
Gibson's only true offset design became an instant hit with players like Johnny Winter, Brian Jones, and Keith Richards, offering a unique solidbody tone and progressive construction methods.
Often lost in a sea of its iconic counterparts, Gibson's Firebird model is anything but lacking in the tone and looks department. It's fundamental departure from the familiar solidbody electric designs of the 50s and early 60s combined with a new pickup design offered players a pretty groundbreaking experience. This is just the second Firebird V model we've had in the store, and it happens to also be one of the cleanest we've seen! Free of breaks (a minor miracle), a clean original finish, amazing playing neck, and a pair of original Firebird humbuckers that are just magnificent sounding, it's hard to imagine it getting any better than this!
The neck-through body shows off its original Sunburst finish with very minimal wear or fading. The pickguard - often shrunken and broken on the edges - remains delightfully intact and clean, and all of the nickel plated hardware has a lovely patina without heavy wear.
The guitar has been excellently refretted prior to our acquisition of the guitar, along with installation of a new nylon nut. The original ceramic disk caps were swapped out with orange drops, and the input jack was replaced. Again, all work done before landing here in our shop, and very pro-level at that. The rest of the wiring harness remains original.
Accompanied by its original hardshell case in equally clean condition. Expedited Shipping Required.
**NOTE: We ship vintage Firebirds with their tuners removed from the headstock for safe shipping. The new owner should be comfortable with reinstalling them as part of the transaction.**
