This 1937 Gibson EH-100 is an excellent example of just the second electrified "solidbody" instrument Gibson brought to market, preceded only by the EH-150 released in 1935.
The EH-100 was introduced in 1936 and featured all-Maple construction with a single Volume knob. In its second year, a Tone knob was added just as you'll see here, with construction and specs remaining otherwise consistent. The long-magnet "Charlie Christian" style blade pickup produces a wonderful tone - mellow and clear with a nice roundness to each note. In its most common tuning of C6, this EH-100 transports you back in time to the early days of the electrified instrument, and yet still some 80+ years later it remains as one of the most significant advancements in modern musical instrument design and function.
It has remained almost entirely original, with only so much as a replaced tone knob as the lone change. The open-back Grover tuners are quite healthy with clean original buttons. Although the E and D shafts are slightly bent, they still perform well. The aforementioned pickup and controls work as they should, with just a touch of resistance in the potentiometer sweeps.
The original Sunburst finish is very clean, with normal body wear in the way of various scuffs, nicks, and dings throughout. The headstock shows even lighter wear, with a very clean and pronounced script 'Gibson' logo.
It comes in its original and rare Geib tweed and stripe case, with all of its original latches functioning and in very nice condition overall.
