Fender Custom Shop 1963 Telecaster Fiesta Red/Relic (USED, 2024)
T-Style · Single Coils Pickups · Used
For us? This ’63 Custom Shop Telecaster embodies everything we love about a great Tele.
Telecaster players, like all electric guitar players if we're honest, tend to be a particular lot. Whether it's the amount of twang, a favorite neck profile, bridge and neck pickups, the perfect weight, or the choice between ash and alder, we Tele devotees have our ideal version of the perfect Tele and will go to great lengths to find "the one."To start with the shallow stuff, Fiesta Red with a mint green guard is a combination that either gets you or it doesn't, and we were in the second this one came out of the case. Relic'd nitro does something to Fiesta Red that a gloss finish never will, pulling it toward the coral end and letting the checking and honest wear break up all that color. Round-lam rosewood board, aged clay dots, and a neck back left unfinished so there's nothing between your hand and the maple.
The bridge pickup is a hand-wound Original Blackguard, and it's the reason this guitar sounds bigger than you'd expect. Richer midrange, edging into P90 territory with no harsh treble, just chimey and twangy with an ounce of P90 snarl. The neck pickup is a hand-wound Twisted Tele, with that hollow, Strat-like quality, and it blends seamlessly with the bridge for a versatile sound across the board. Modern Tele wiring with a Greasebucket tone circuit means backing off the highs actually backs off the highs, without the low end swelling in to fill the space.
The neck is a comfortable '60s Oval C carve, .820" at the first and .890" at the twelfth, with a 9.5" radius and larger 6105 frets making for a really comfy playing experience. The feel is snappy and responsive, with impressive resonance and sustain - even when unplugged.
If this sounds like your ideal Tele, you're in for a treat. Come by Lexington and put it through its paces, or reach out and we'll walk you through it.
