Fender Custom Shop 1954 Telecaster Faded/Aged Nocaster Blonde (USED, 2024)
T-Style · Single Coils Pickups · Used
The last year the Telecaster looked like this, rebuilt by the Custom Shop with a compound radius that brings its playability into the modern era.
1954 is the last year the Telecaster looked like this: black phenolic guard, blonde over ash, everything still built the way Leo built it before the Stratocaster showed up. A year later the white ABS guards arrived and that particular look was gone. The Custom Shop got the details right on this one. Two-piece select ash with the seam offset toward the treble side, exactly where the originals put it. One-piece rift sawn maple neck carved to a '54 "U," which is substantial without being cumbersome. The one concession to the present is the fingerboard: a compound 7 1/4" to 9 1/2" radius that keeps the vintage feel down at the nut and makes bending higher up the neck a bit easier. Said another way? It looks period correct but plays like it isn't.
The pickups are hand-wound Loaded '51 Nocasters, and they do what we want from early '50s Fenders - an articulate top end, real twang, a dry woody midrange, with slightly more muscle behind it than a strictly vintage-output set would give you.
The rest is period: medium vintage 47095 frets, Fat '50s Tele wiring, three-way switch, and the '51 to '54 bridge with brass saddles.
