Like Gibson's EB lineup, Epiphone put out distinctively cool electric basses that followed Gibson's lead. Like the EB-0, the Newport focused on simplicity and playability. The all-Mahogany construction and slim body design combined the sustain of a solidbody with a lightweight, balanced playing experience.
This 1962 Epiphone Newport shows all of the features of the earlier style, with the symmetrical double cutaway body shape and black pickup cover. The small 3-ply pickguard and reflector knobs are original to the bass as well, as is the nickel-plated bridge.
The headstock suffered a break at some point, and had been repaired long before the consignor took ownership of it. Some top-level work was done to conceal some of the old repair by way of lacquer overspray, and the bass remains just as solid as it looks. The original frets show plenty of life left in them with a fresh level, crown, and polish.
This is the perfect bass for the player who wants a cool vintage piece that begs to be played and brings a unique voice to the table.
Priced with aftermarket hardshell case.
