Product information

The late, incomparable David Lindley owned two of Paddy Burgin's Weissenborns. Need we say more?

A brilliant new arrival, in a rare, and very special wood set from New Zealand-based Paddy Burgin.

"Burgintwangers" as David Lindley dubbed these instruments, expand on the classic Weissenborn hollow-neck design, both figuratively and literally, by increasing the body depth to something more akin to the Kona models also attributed to Weissenborn. As you can imagine, these instruments push a lot of air, boasting an expansive, deep voice.

The highly sought after swamp kauri (Agathis australis) on this instrument is up to 45,000 years old. While North America has its ancient sinker logs in the Great Lakes, New Zealand has giant kauri trees that fell into swamps thousands of years ago and stayed preserved due to the lack of oxygen and atmospherics.

Given its nearly unfathomable age, it comes as no surprise that ancient Kauri makes for an exceptionally resonant, toneful guitar. Paired with a lovely Tasmanian ash top, Burgin's Kauri Weissenborn offers excellent fundamental body, warmth, and articulate clarity, with lovely sustain befitting a world-class acoustic lap slide guitar.
