Koll Troubadour Green Gold

The Koll Troubadour in custom green/gold is a masterclass in restraint - Fullerton-inspired simplicity, TV Jones pickups, and a finish that stops the room without trying to.

The Koll Troubadour is Saul's take on the classic Fullerton design aesthetic, and like everything he builds, it takes that reference point as a starting place rather than a destination. This particular example was handcrafted as a show guitar for the Fretboard Journal Summit in Chicago, and it's painted in a really cool custom green/gold finish that manages to be striking without announcing itself, so to speak.

The design philosophy here is simplicity, and it runs through every decision. Solid contoured alder body, bolt-on maple neck at 25.5" scale, clean rosewood fretboard with no position inlays (which we always love). Nothing superfluous, nothing to distract from the playing experience. In lesser hands that approach can feel incomplete, on the Troubadour it feels considered and intentional, the kind of restraint that takes real conviction to execute well. The TV Jones pickup pairing covers the tonal spectrum with equal conviction. The Filtertron Plus at the bridge delivers focused, articulate output with real presence and clarity, while the Duotron in the neck position brings a rounder, warmer character that opens up the guitar's more expressive side.

Between the two there's significant tonal ground to explore, and the Troubadour's straightforward control set keeps the focus exactly where it should be - on the playing.

Sometimes less really is more. This guitar makes that case better than most.
