Ron Thorn's Korina V-style, built from drawings of a 1958 original.
Ron Thorn had access to a detailed set of measurements taken from a 1958 original V, and he worked them into a complete set of drawings. Then he sat on them. For more than a decade.He made exactly two changes to what he saw in the drawings. He moved the bridge back a sixteenth of an inch so the guitar would actually intonate, and he increased the neck angle by half a degree so the bridge wasn't sitting down on the pickguard. Two corrections to two things that never quite worked properly in 1958, and nothing else touched.
That restraint is the whole point. Ron has the chops to redesign anything he wants, and here he chose not to. What you get is the shape and the geometry as they were originally drawn, built to a standard the original run never came close to, with the two dimensional problems quietly solved.
The Korina here is doing a lot of the work. It is light, open, and midrange-forward in a way mahogany isn't, with a woody bloom to the note that you feel in the body as much as you hear it. It is also the wood these were meant to be made from, and Ron has been buying and seasoning the good stuff for decades.
We see a lot of guitars as you'd imagine. We do not expect to ever see another one of these. To call this rare would be an understatement!
Every instrument is thoroughly checked and set up before shipping fully insured via UPS with tracking to your door. We reuse boxes and materials to cut waste when they meet our protection standard.
Inspect it, play it, and if it isn't right, contact us within 48 hours of delivery to arrange a return or one-time exchange. Returns are subject to a 5% restocking fee, and the buyer covers shipping both ways.
