Powers Electric A-Type PF42 Hemi Orange (USED, 2024)
Hollow-Body/Archtop · Single Coils Pickups · Used
The A-Type feels like an incredibly agile, high performance sports car. It's got one foot in tradition while fearlessly looking into the future. All this to say, all the hype you've no doubt heard is justified.
Released in June 2023, the Powers Electric A-Type quickly made waves in the electric guitar community. Designed from the ground up by Andy Powers (of Taylor Guitars), the A-Type offers a fresh, forward-thinking take on electric guitar design - deeply rooted in Andy’s Southern California upbringing.Everything from Porsche-inspired colors to the “Camtail” tremolo evokes SoCal culture. The custom knobs, switch tip, and trem bar nod to surf and skate design, while the fingerboard’s unique compound radius was inspired by surfboard shaping. It’s a guitar that wears its geography proudly - if you’ve spent time in SoCal, you’ll spot the references instantly. But specs and design cues aside, what really matters is how the A-Type feels, plays, and sounds. After playing nearly 25 of them, we can confidently say they’re remarkably consistent. The neck is slinky and instantly comfortable. Plugged in, the tones are fat, warm, articulate, with beautifully voiced clean sounds - and surprisingly bold overdriven tones. The in-house pickups compress sweetly with gain, delivering gobs of sustain and a feel that makes you forget the guitar is even there.
The car analogy fits: the A-Type is like a high-performance sports car - agile, tuned, and endlessly fun to drive. One foot in tradition, the other racing into the future.
All the hype? Totally justified.
